I’m speed reading these books so I can hopefully potentially have read Penelope’s & Colin’s book before the new season comes out. I don’t think this book would’ve been nearly as engaging if I didn’t have all the visuals in my head from the show, ya know? But like it was good I guess. Quinn needs to come up with a new way of expressing a characters frustration besides them saying “I’m going to kill them.” On to the next.

This book wasn’t really for me anyway but the author has very frustrating way of writing. About 25% of the way through, there is an encounter between the two protagonists that just wouldn’t end. It was pretty hard to continue after that but I pushed through to the end.

Read this after watching Bridgerton on Netflix. I enjoyed the differences!

I've been seeing rave reviews for the new Netflix show, so I thought I'd give the book a read since I enjoy reading books before watching their movie/series adaptations. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I was a bit disappointed, honestly. Some parts were interesting and okay, like the Lady Whistledown aspect moving the narration along and Simon's history and how he overcame it, but overall it just didn't grab me. Also, there was that non-consensual scene that was glossed over (IMO) simply [spoiler alert] because it was against a man and not a woman. Disappointing. (I will say that the narrator on the audiobook is excellent, however.)

This book hit me with an intimacy that I was not expecting at all. I had to do some soul searching and readdress long held shackles on my soul.

I literally was not expecting much more than a typical regency romance (lovely, endearing, clever, entertaining and all with a happy ending) and yet I found myself with similarities to Simon that I truly was not expecting to be so profound.

This was my first novel by Julia Quinn. I am clearly going to have to add her to my favorite authors.
