Solid add to the series. Darker as the name suggests. Fast paced for a majority of the book. A good continuation of “Iron gold” and a solid setup for the final books of the series.

So much happened it’s difficult for me to discern the plot story from Iron Son and Dark Age — not that it’s a big thing! I heard a review from someone that said the Red Rising series reads in a way where the plots from each book flow so well into each other, that it’s hard to pinpoint the exact switch between books.

Lysander is such an interesting and complex character. There are soooo many moments where I hate him, of course, because he’s derailing so many things for Darrow, but there are also so many moments where I genuinely feel for him as a character. He has these pure intentions, but the wrong mindset, and it’s hard to not feel sorry for him at times.
Especially with the whole Atalantia thing smh

I lovvveddd the switch to Virginia’s perspective with the Vox. It was so good to see her perspective as Sovereign and the immense responsibility and decisions that she has to make. I think it was easy to judge her, like some of the other characters, and dismiss her as being too lenient with the Vox, so it was satisfying to see how her brain is constantly working to one-up those who underestimate her.

God, I say this every book — I just want Darrow to be happy. His response to Harnassus asking “why?” — I need Darrow to get what he dreams of.

The deaths in this book killed a part of my soul.

Brown really found his stride again. He did a phenomenal job managing such a massive war and made it feel both grand and disgestable.
Definitely his most gruesome entry. I don't like that a clone of the previous villain was introduced but how he is handling it has me very interested.
