This fits more as a thriller than a horror story. Yes, it has elements of a haunted house, but midway through the book becomes clear what is actually going on. At least to me it was definitely an interesting read. I think what annoyed me the most about the book is the ending. The way it leaves it open and abrupt without any real resolution grates my nerves. I was more interested in the sub plot than the actual plot of the house. The real story is there.

Aside from that, it was interesting, reading from someone who are anxious with a hyper active phobia of bedbugs. It absolutely made my skin itch learning hearing all the bedbug facts. I wanted to set my brand new mattress on fire lol.

I did feel for the characters in this story. Having a blended, mixed family is difficult, adding with it being an interracial family on top of that adds a extremely complex family dynamic. There is a lot of trauma that each member of the family is dealing with, and I did like that hints of it were explored.

Overall it was a pretty decent story.

Man I should’ve read this book last month when everyone else was reading it! It’s definitely something you read to scare the bejesus out of yourself!
I loved the characters and the plot. The craziness of mob mentality and white corporate greed is so real…my only gripe is the ending! It’s so abrupt…I really NEEDED to see for myself that Buddy and Sammy were okay and that the family moved far away from the Wood!

It took me a bit to get into it, but then it was worth it. Young me would have eaten this up!

While the ending felt just a tad rushed, I still think as a whole it's deserving of 5 stars. Feeling fresh yet familiar, White Smoke delivers on the promise of spookiness and history repeating to create a tense atmosphere.

Okay! This was more intriguing than I expected

This story totally pulled me in. I found myself anxiously waiting for what would happen next. That DAMN Miss Suga! This story was crazy! But REALLY good. I'm hoping that it doesn't just end like that and there will be another book because I want to know what happens next!
