The writing was simplistic, but not bad for all that. The tale was so fun and funny that it was worth it.

So obviously, I like this one. I wrote it! But I'm re-reading the entire series right now in preparation for getting back in and writing book 4 and in the years in-between I've learned a lot. Still, I'm proud of this one. It has a lot of heart and some clever lines. Strong relationships and realism in the midst of all the superpowers. Still very much a project of my heart. Can't wait to see what the characters and I come up with for book 4!

This is another of my favourite reads of 2015. Superheroes who get their superpowers at menopause rather than birth or puberty = AWESOME. Older women being rad for the win.

Also, one of the characters has a journey that somewhat parallels that of being a trans woman — i.e. she still identifies as female even though her body becomes that of what appears to be a male human. I'm hoping that that allows older cisgender people to empathize more with transgender folks.

Writing was off to a great start, but lagged in the middle. Worse, the action picked up again only to slam you into a rushed cliffhanger: a sequel hook that we should have been warned about. But since this book came out only a few months ago I'm hoping the author doesn't leave us hanging too long.

I love the concept of this book. I thought the characters were all interesting and well conceived. But there is something about it that I just didn't like. I had to force myself to finish it. And it bugs me that I didn't like it more. It's not that it was poorly written. And there are definitely some interesting and fun ideas in here (women who get superpowers as a result of taking various naturopathic treatments for menopause symptoms). But it was a slog.

Not sure if it was because there were so many short little chapters (this book have over 60 chapters, I think - most of them 3 pages); there was a lot of skipping around amongst the 6 main characters stories.

I dunno. It's not that I didn't find it relevant. But just not as fun as I wanted it to be.

But I did think that her characters were really well drawn. Maybe just a different structure for the next one?
