“The first words of a new book are so delicious; like the first taste of a cookie fresh from the oven and not yet properly cooled.“

One of many quotes from this sweet little story that touched my heart. This is the kind of story about books that I like.
Three orphans look for belonging and family by participating in the evacuation of children from London to the countryside during WW2.
They bond with a local librarian over their love of books.
I found it wonderfully ironic that the librarian recommended books to the children that they decided not to read because the main characters were orphans (Heidi, Anne of Green Gables, Peter Pan).
Nothing wild in this overall. Just a gentle fireside read that I’d read to my nephew.

Hard to believe this was written just last year as it feels like a classic.
