This book is wonderful! It reminded me of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe in that it involved a group of siblings that are sent to the English countryside while London is being bombed in WWII. It’s not a war book though, and there’s no magic wardrobe, so that’s where the similarities end.

Three siblings, the oldest being 12, are orphans that have been raised by their cold and unloving grandmother, but as the book opens, they are at her funeral. There are no plans for who will take care of them now, so it’s decided that they’ll go to the country with the rest of the evacuees and hopefully find a permanent home.

This is one of those books for people that love books. Each kid takes one book with them and the sister, Anna, takes A Little Princess (my favorite book). I was pretty much sold on the book at that point.

While I assume this is a middle grade book, it was recommended to me by someone older than me and I personally loved it. It would be hard for me to imagine anyone not loving this book.

I feel kind of bad for Kate Albus. This was her debut book. How can she top this? So much pressure! Regardless, I can’t wait for her next book to come out. It’s so good!

This book was an absolute delight. Reading it felt like being wrapped in a blanket drinking a cup of tea and sitting in Iris’ house from The Holiday. So tender and sweet. “the unspeakable deliciousness of knowing they were beloved”

A delightful, heartwarming story about three siblings who evacuate to the country during WWII, hoping to find a family. I dearly loved it.

This book made me feel the same way as a mug of hot chocolate after sledding did when I was seven, so that's a win for me.
