This book made me feel the same way as a mug of hot chocolate after sledding did when I was seven, so that's a win for me.

This was a rather stressful book to read because of the injustices the children faced, but the children were lovely and I suspected a happy ending for all. Tiny bit annoyed at the cover of the audio book that show the children out of birth order.

I started reading this to my daughter after she chose it at the library. After the first chapter neither of us wanted to continue.  I am assuming it was written for an American audience, as I do not know any modern-day British child who would call a custard cream biscuit a 'cookie', let alone any in ww2.

I know it seems petty, but details like that rob the story of its authenticity. Also, it was already starting to feel formulaic. More like fan-fiction.

If you want middle grade world war fiction I would recommend Hilary McKay instead: 'The skylark's war' and 'The swallow's flight'

Such a sweet story! These precious children have endured so much in their short lives already, and sweet Nora had endured her share of hard times and heartache. I'm so glad they found each other.

Very wholesome, loved the sibling relationships and dynamic. Glad to see them get a happy ending after such challenging circumstances.

I wanted to hug the book when I was done reading it. Loved it all from start to finish.

Such a sweet book. I know it’s for children but it does warm the heart.
