Not bad- has potential; just not my cup of tea.

I personally have watched the tv show before I picked up the comic and was very surprised to find out the big difference between the two. I loved the whole set up of this world and thought this book was a great introduction to a series as I can’t wait for volume two. Nothing more I could have wanted from this (except more representation but hey, that happens a lot for me) so I throughly recommend to the tv show watchers and newbies to iZombie alike!

Totally different in substance and plot from the show that took its name, there's still some interesting stuff in this volume. Much more supernatural, with vampires, wereterriers, ghosts, and monster hunters mixed in. I like the concepts hashed out in the story, but the pacing and flow are a bit odd, with some "tell rather than show" that's especially off in a graphic novel. Based on this volume, I think there's a lot of potential and I'll definitely continue with the series to see where it heads.

Our shero is Gwen, Girl Zombie: gravedigger by day, brain-eater/painter by night. There's a little bit of mystery, some romantic tension, and an unsettling vampire "reservation" that reminded me of university sorority cliches. I wasn't crazy about the art, but I liked the story enough to get past it. This volume includes enough character introductions and back story to fuel future volumes, and I'm interested enough to read those future volumes. The story includes most of the basic "monsters" - wereterrier, ghost, vampires, zombies - but they have picnics, get coffee at Dixie's diner and create paintings in between changing shapes, eating brains and ruminating on the condition of their souls. It's charming. It's set in Eugene, OR but there is a conspicuous lack of hippies? Gwen is kind of foxy. She's a little clueless, but since she's barely holding onto the memories of her human life, you can go easy on her.

I picked this up based on Raina's review of it. She sums it pretty well.

There is almost no resemblance to the TV series, not even the name of the main character. I love Liv Moore, and I'm starting to warm up to Gwen Dylan.

There are so many supernatural creatures in the comics which is really good even though I liked the human characters in the show.

I like the concept I just found some of this story slightly disjointed and random

This is the first comic book I've ever finished so that in and of itself tells me something. I started reading iZombie because of the TV show, which I find highly entertaining. I was surprised and happy to find that the story told in the comics is completely different from the story told in the TV show, but the main character, Gwen, still has that same attitude and sarcasm as Olivia does. I love all the side characters in this and the story is good enough to keep me moving quickly through the volumes available. Highly recommend!

WHY IS THIS SO GOOD. If this is one of those titles that has a great first arc and then just tumbles downhill, I'm going to be pretty upset. And I guess there's a TV show or something? Whatever, THIS IS SO GOOD. I AM SO PLEASANTLY SURPRISED.
