In this figure skating theme book comes Ana who, to help out with the cost of skating, teaches as an aid at the rink and discovers something internally in her when she meets a trans boy named Hayden.

This book is a coming-out book set with Ana, a twelve-year-old who is doing excellent in the rink till her new program just isn't feeling her and she doesn't know why.  And on top of that, her outfit for her program is a dress.  l like how Ana already had some inclines something was different about her and her happenstance way of discovering who she is over time.  Also for supporting parents and the environment.  As I listened to this book, the narrator was in a feminine voice and captured the self-realization well and things in the book well.  The narrator's voice was easy to listen to and clear and understandable.

It is a nice coming out story

I wish I could give this book like ten stars. Holy wowza. This is one of the first books I've read (particularly for young audiences) that has a nonbinary main character. It was so emotional and open and I just genuinely loved every bit of it so much.

While this story leans heavily on both the "not telling friends and family a big thing, which is going to make it harder when it comes out" AND the "ignoring my friends because I've got some heavy things going on and eventually I'm going to get called out for my neglect" plot threads, in the end I thought these were handled pretty well. Ana's struggle of figuring out her own identity and then trying to figure out how to communicate it to those around her is very relatable, and I appreciated how things were crafted as she tried to make amends for ignoring her long-time friend Tamar and lying to her new friend Hayden. Her friends and family were incredibly understanding, which clearly might not be everyone's experience, but this story offered up an optimistic portrayal of how we could all be a little more empathetic with each other as we struggle through life.

Clearly this is a personal story for the author, and I thought that came through in the careful way the story was crafted.
