3 stars. I've been wanting to read this for years so shout out to amazon's kindle unlimited program for the opportunity because honestly I would've been pissed if I had spent money on this. It's no secret that I'm Batman trash but this was just one of those stories as a whole just didn't work for me.
The artwork is absolutely breathtaking. Some of my favorite actually (outside of The Killing Joke) but the story is so convoluted and bloated and nothing feels fleshed out. It builds and builds only for the anti-climatic climax. I loved all of Bruce's inner turmoil, especially in regards to his relationship with Selina but he just seemed so off of his game here. The twist was obvious from the jump and I had pieced pretty much everything together at about 20% in.
Oh, well. The artwork is stunning and I'm glad to have finally read it but it's definitely nowhere near a favorite of mine.

По-перше, ілюстрації просто надзвичайні: кольори, деталізація — усе вражає. Однак попри це мені здалося, що всі персонажі на одне обличчя, особливо жінки. Та й Брюса Вейна не відрізнити від Кларка Кента, коли той без окулярів.
По-друге, сюжет. Увесь час щось відбувається, події заплутуються, численні персонажі постійно взаємодіють одне з одним. Втім, кількість персонажів, особливо лиходіїв, завищила мої очікування щодо фіналу, який, на жаль, розчарував розгадкою.
Я з великою цікавістю спостерігала за Бетменом; автори добре постаралися, аби емоційно мене залучити. Таємниця захоплює, і навіть наприкінці залишається місце сумнівам і недомовкам.

I had read the story in the two separate trades before, so much of my comments back then apply to this compilation as well. However, I do want to comment on the larger format of this "Absolute" edition. It is much larger, so if you like to be able to really appreciate the art, and it is very good art in this series, then this is a good volume for you. It is much better in terms of readability as well. The volume features some additional material after the story including a gallery of covers and annotations. If you like extras like that, you will probably appreciate this edition. Basically, this is a good edition for fans who really want to have this story, and it is a good story. Loeb really delivers a good story where the real villain is the person one least expects.

This story once was one of my introductions to the Batman comics. For a long time, I think that it was one of the best Batman stories of all times. Now I`m not so sure anymore.
At the first reading, I was amazed by the amount of Batman mythology included in Hush. Almost every important character, ally or foe, presented or at least mentioned. Even as an inexperienced reader with little to no knowledge of many of these characters I don`t feel lost or confused thanks to the screenwriter Jeph Loeb who did his best to smooth things over. Because of this, it was my belief that this comic is actually a good starting point for the new readers and I still think so. The art is one of the highlights of the comic and it`s difficult to separate one of the creators as solely responsible for this. This book is really beautiful which was the main reason I wanted to buy a copy.
So now, after rereading, how did my opinions changes? First of all, the story itself is not that ground-breaking and rely very heavily on the extended cast of characters and the homages to the previous stories. The antagonist is underdeveloped (which was fixed by Paul Dini in Heart of Hush) and the final is anticlimactic. The good parts of the story - the one that included Batman and Catwoman`s relationship - are still pretty good even if I didn`t like Selina`s characterization that much.
I was very surprised when I realized that I`m not that fond of Jim Lee`s pencils anymore. The art style that I once considered quintessential to the superhero comics now seems to me so... nineties. It lacks emotional expressions and falls into cheesecake too much for my enjoyment (to be honest, the latest Jim Lee`s works actually became better when it comes to drawing of the female characters - see his work on the Suicide Squad).
I`m still cannot say that I don`t enjoy myself when rereading Hush. This is still gothic and noirish hard-boiled narrated Batman detective story and not a bad one either, far from it. Even if I maybe overgrow my love for art, I still think that it`s beautiful and iconic. I still like Hush, but not as much as I did a few years ago.
P.S. Ukrainian translation of the comic is mostly good with some minor flaws.
