Oh, for a Lady of Quality to be drawn to such a reprobate is not to be considered. And yet, when Miss Annis Wychwood of Bath rescues a runaway heiress and must tangle with the girl's guardian...

I enjoy almost all of Heyer's Regency romances including this one although I didn't really feel the love build in this one.

One of the later novels, with a strong heroine caring for an ingenue and romancing an unconventional hero.

This was my first foray into Heyer's romances. I enjoyed it. The story was expected, but that is why I read these types of books. No clever dialogue, no interesting locale, no surprises.

Another charming Heyer romance novel. The plot is both predictable and unoriginal, but still enjoyable. Set at the end of the Regency period, Annis is a woman in her late twenties who lives alone in Bath. She encounters a young heiress, Lucilla, running away from her family to avoid marriage to her best friend. Annis offers to take Lucilla in whilst her family decides what to do with her. This brings Annis into contact with Lucilla's uncle, the rudest man Annis has ever met. As expected, they fall in love and get married. The book has lots of interesting details about life amongst the wealthy during Regency period. Heyer's heroines and heroes are typically witty characters who make amusing, sardonic remarks throughout the novel. The books are reminiscent of Jane Austen.

I enjoyed this regency scene in Bath. It felt like an Austen extension. The characters were well developed, in my opinion, though the plot wasn't complex. Fun, quick read.
