Maybe a 3.5. The story held my attention despite a few holes. Magic realism aspects are clunky, and about 2/3 the book it is clear the author wanted to emphasize a particular aspect of a misgynistic culture, and while it is not heavy handed, it is not subtle, either. This is a good novel with a premise that might have been great with tighter editing.

Decent, warm tale. I appreciated the magic, the love of books expressed, and the DV theme.

*Audible
I almost abandoned this one. I got tired of the main characters a couple of times. It was like the author changed their personalities at time. They became idiots who couldn't talk about their feeling... It was annoying. It was almost as if the author changed the main characters just to drag the book out longer.

Good book full love trials, losing and finding the most important parts of life. This was written from three points of view over two different times periods and three differing narratives so fantastic.

I started listening to the audiobook the evening of May 13th, and I feel asleep. I did not remember that I was reading it until three days later!

Despite the parallel time lines, rare books, and a magical bookshop, I have not been pulled it. The narrators are very good, but somehow I feel lost and confused. Maybe this would work for me in a print format and at a different time in my life.

What a sweet and magical story. It was a little predictable at the end, but I loved the mystery, and the characters were all well-developed
