This is a very good sequel to Blue Remembered Earth. It's exciting to watch Reynolds's writing progress - where the characters in his early books were very two dimensional and showed little growth, these characters are believable and grow through the book.

Spoiler
For people who have read the Rama trilogy (starting with Rama II), many elements of this book will seem familiar. Giant ships with mysteries, squabbling politics, a decent into facism and paranoia, alien intelligence with human ambassadors, etc. Where Garden of Rama and Rama Revealed falter in plot and writing, though, Reynolds succeeds wonderfully.

The second novel from this series and it feels and reads much better than the first one. Still I can't give it five full stars as there are some parts that feel a it of a drag. But besides this minor complain I am really looking forward to read the third part.

Really gripped me. Perhaps a bit disappointed with the ending, but only because the rest of the book was so good I expected even more.

This isĀ  the second book in the series, set chronologically after the first but can be read as a standalone novel.

Like the first book in the series it startedĀ  (very) slow until the first death happened. Then the plot picks up its pace and it is truly epic. I like the world the author created. But my biggest problem with this novel is again that the protagonist(s) remained distant. I am told how they acts and speak but I could only infer what they are thinking or feeling. That was frustrating.
