This is a solid book.

I liked Liannas and Davids relationship and how it evolved. There was more plot than I expected.

Smut was great and dark. I liked it was so unapolegetic and fit the atmosphere of the book. Had it been lighter it would have ruined the story In my opinion.

The writing itself felt a little off at times which pulled me a bit out of the narrative itself.

! Warning: Spoilers (kinda)!

So my initional thought about the father was right. He was the real villain! Overall I liked the book. The story was interesting, it ended weird though... Felt like the book was cut off. The dynamic between the main characters was okay and the spicy scenes were good.
Overall, I say it's a solid read.

This was so far out of my comfort zone, I wasn't sure I'd be able to finish reading it. But my goodness, this author knows how to write a good hook, and I couldn't put it down, despite my serious reservations. Rape is really, really not my kink/fantasy, but the characters and mystery/conflict were totally compelling. Like Lianna, I was drawn in and consumed by the story. While it's not the sort of romance I typically go for, and probably won't continue on with this particular series, it's a testament to the author's skill how much I actually ended up enjoying the book.

This book was dark - this book was light - this book was every shade in between. And it was awesome. Granted I havent read any "dark" books since October (so it has been a few months) but it was a joy to read this book - or perhaps I shouldn't say joy given the subject matter...........

I really liked David he was a great tortured soul and his character was written so well - I was a little meh on Lianna but she progressed alright in the end - and the story although a bit strange at the start given like, why is this all happening - really wrapped up and turned into quite an interesting read.

I really enjoyed this - did I say that already? I'll be checking out this authors other stuff as this is the first one I read .. cant wait

Not a true DNF because I didn’t finish but I skipped a bunch and hurriedly got to the end. If I account for what I skipped…. Probably DNF AT 75%

I had to read the blurb to remind myself what this one was about….. so that tells you how little I liked this book and how little of an impression it made on me.

Im realizing I don’t like noncon that done as revenge or with malicious intent. I don’t mind noncon of the H is infatuated with the h and just doesn’t care that she’s not infatuated with him. But noncon meant to harm …. I don’t like it.

But that’s not the only reason I didn’t like this story. We have noncon meant to harm but the h immediately hast the body betrayal trope going when he’s breaking into her house seeming like he’s gonna kill her….. it doesn’t make sense. The whole story just had very little depth and the romance wasn’t there to make up for the lack of plot.

A crime boss has been masquerading as a legit businessman with his daughter at his side and an old enemy resurfaces to kidnap her as revenge against her father. The father does not act as the kidnapper expected… he r@pes her all the while, and he reveals how awful her father really is. For unknown reasons she falls inlove with him and I can’t remember if they live HEA.

And I don’t say I can’t understand her falling inlove with him because he’s a villain. I love villains…. But she doesn’t even see his face until like 50 to 70 % in. There are no kind words shared between them. No build up of kindness that shows he’s falling for her or vice versa. …. It just wasn’t good.

I'm obviously as messed up as Lianne to also fall for David

I have had Destruction sitting on my kindle, waiting to be read for quite some time. Life, arc reading and buying too many books has meant that I just hadn't gotten around to reading it. However I do know the author is working on completing the second book, so I decided it was time I got myself caught up.

The title is very fitting in so many ways, including the devastation to my soul. This is a pretty dark read, with non-con (albeit it's enjoyed, but she definitely says no), sadism, violence and what is possibly a healthy dollop of Stockholm Syndrome.

David is an antihero of the first order, doing bad things for misguided reasons. He and Lianne share some very warped but extremely hot chemistry. There are passages that make for uncomfortable reading - because you really shouldn't be turned on by such depravity but you are. Lianne is very easy to like and connect to, their is a very natural and likeable feel to her character. I disliked David for so much of the book, but that's because he is written to BE hated, until you don't.

The writing held my attention, the characters interested me, whilst the plot and suspense was well paced so as to hold my attention. I was huddled in the corner of that dank, concrete cell. I was chained across that thin, worn mattress. The skill of the author put me into the middle of the story, had me screaming in the dark and crying in misery alongside Lianne.

If you're looking for your next dark erotic read then you've found it here.
