It is dark though, so if you have trouble with certain topics, heed the trigger warnings list.

But seriously, the story is fine. The tone is an odd mix of humor, melodrama, and “dark” themes. Definitely not my cup of tea in terms of romance (again, problematic!) , but the whole past/present thing has got me interested! See content warnings.

I loved how this book kept me at the edge of my seat as I the story between the husky and his white cat shizun unfolds. Also, I’d like to commend the writing of this author. It’s so descriptive that I really felt like I was transported to the world of wuxia.
Still, there are themes in this book to look out for so please refer to the content warnings before reading this. It is still a good book, though and I can’t wait to read the next volume because the end chapter of this one left my gutted, out of breath and teary-eyed.

The MC is absolutely a terrible person and most of the characters aren't much better (except Shi Mei, bless him). I don't wanna give spoilers, but if you read through the content warnings, you're basically reading a list of the protagonist's misdeeds.
The main plot is that the MC is reborn and has the chance to redo his life, so I'm very curious to see if that's actually possible. Can he go in a better direction? If yes, does that erase his past crimes? How much can truly be forgiven?
I think I would enjoy this story more if the main relationships were more healthy. The plot and themes have kept me very invested, but oh my god, I don't know if I could ever recommend this book because a large part is romance, but it's sooo problematic. The title alone indicates a relationship between a student and teacher (a disciple and master/Shizun), and in this first book, there is such a huge age gap and it's honestly very yikes.
I honestly don't know what to rate this cuz it's awful but also really well-written and I couldn't look away??!? I think I'll give it a 3.5 for now, but that may change. 😅

Unlike Heaven's Official's Blessing in the same genre, I found 2ha well written and/or well translated. The prose was good, the humour hit, the plot got satisfactorily far in its almost 500 pages. The plot is twisted and fucked up, but you have been warned of that already.
Taxian-jun, the evil emperor of the cultivation world, had once been just Mo Ran, a disciple of a proper cultivational sect. He'd had a bright future ahead of him, but his mentor's failure — refusal — to save his belovedʼs life had pushed him onto the dark path. He'd avenged himself in time, defeating his mentor, Chu Wanning, and keeping him as a pet captive for years before ultimately murdering him.
In the first chapter, we see the last of Taxian-jun. Tired of living, he takes poison rather than fall to a rebel army at his gates, and passes with no further regrets. To his surprise, he wakes up after that, and it is in the body of his fifteen-year-old self, when his life was good and none of the tragedies that would form Taxian-jun had yet happened.
And so Mo Ran, in possession of all his wisdom and memories from the previous life, decides to cheese his way through his second run. He already knows the steps, the traps and opportunities. He is prepared to save his beloved's life on his own, and to hell with his mentor...
Alas, his once-terrifying shizun Chu Wanning is irrevocably superimposed in his mind over the man heʼd held as a bed slave for years, and between the resulting blunders and his attempts to meddle, the future may yet twist out of Mo Ran's hand...
