Another exciting adventure for the librarians. Irene is on probation after she sacrificed herself and others to save Kai. Now they find themselves under house arrest in Vale's world waiting for instructions or orders.

Until they realize someone is out to kill Irene and destroy the Librarians along with their train. Irene and Kai find themselves hunting for a book that could help reinforce the library, until they run into the person trying to destroy them. Now, they fight or they run.

Irene decides to make a stand and fight, save the Librarians, her job, her friends, and herself and Kai. At what cost will this stand make and will Kai and Irene come out alive with the Library still intact.

A series that's hard to put down! This book had me on my toes the entire story.

Spoiler"...and the library would endure."

*I would have given this 4 stars had I not just finished reading a truly amazing book right before which caused me to examine this book a little too harshly. I very much enjoyed it!

I felt like Irene started acting out of character, which is something that instantly puts me off a book.

I really do enjoy the world building that Cogman has going on in these books. I think that the Invisible Library is stronger than the Masked city - it returns to the "big bad villain" and I think i just like having someone like him driving the plot forward! He's quite deliciously bad. Irene is really beginning to feel like she's coming into her own as well - not in the sense of it taking three books to do so, but within herself. She seems more certain of where she stands, and more solid as a librarian, and I like that.
I am also keen to find out what the couple of reveals towards the end mean - hopefully something we get in the next book, but there are two more, so I may just have to wait ;)

I received an e-arc of this through NetGalley.

Basically, I love this series and I want to work for the Library. Orderly Dragons, chaotic Fae, and stealing books, what more could you possibly want? This volume focuses more again on Alberich and his machinations, and while some questions get answered more get posed to take their place. Irene continues to be a bad-ass. One thing that was a little annoying was that Kai and Vale both seemed to be in brooding overprotective mode, way more than I noticed in the two previous books. Which Irene is perfectly capable so they need to cut that nonsense out.

I think this one's my favorite in the series so far but I still honestly don't know if I like this series all that much.....
