I hope Elise stops being insufferable soon. I mean, I get that navigating high school is hard, but I just can't with people who throw pity parties for themselves because they don't have the backbone to stand up for themselves. SNAP OUT OF IT.

There is always a kid in school that is deemed the odd one. The one that enjoys school, the one that just doesn't really have friends. That girl is Elise, she is super smart and just isn't what others in her class call cool. She spent all summer before her sophomore year studying up on what is in fashion and what cool looks like. Her first day of school she dresses the 'right' way but still no one pays any attention. In fact it doesn't change anything. People still make fun of her, to the point that she finally figures out that she should just kill herself. I mean why live in this torture. No one would miss her, except maybe her parents and siblings. So she cuts herself and calls the one girl that's been nice to her this year.

Fast forward six months and Elise has been on lockdown. The reigns are finally loosening so she's able to be alone. She's like her mom and can't sleep more than a few hours a night. So she goes walking and meets Vicky and Pippa and they open a world up to Elise she never knew existed. The underground club Start is where Elise begins to shine. She's liked here, she's treated like shes a human being with feelings, unlike at school. It becomes a high for her.

Not only does she meet the girls she meets Char. He's the DJ. He's also a bit of a man-whore. Char starts to teach Elise to DJ and she takes right to it. She loves it so much that she gets her dad to get her some equipment.

All the while a new blog/diary shows up. Its a telling of Elise's life, of how depressed she is. She seems to be doing better, except everyone at school is reading this. Including the teachers. The only problem is, Elise isn't writing it and she doesn't know who is. She doesn't go to anyone and tell them because they won't believe her, she thinks.

So much more going on in this story. This is such an amazing story. I connected with Elise on a personal level. Her parents are divorced and they hate each other, they have a calendar for all of Elise's things so they don't have to talk. When things blow up and seriously we know they do, her parents are there together for her. I could go on and on and on but I don't want to give away anything else. I got a chance to meet the author and she is just so nice and down to earth. RUN don't walk and get this book. You won't regret it. Leave some love in the form of a review.

Gorgeous. Small issue with lack of follow-through in the ending, but I love, love, loved this story. Compelling, inspiring, musical.

wow. this book is just so real. it's really rare to find a book with a protagonist with a real problem (or I just didn't search hard enough)

anyway, this book seriously connected with me. what goes through your mind when you cut yourself. the motivation behind it and so much.

you can be whoever you want, unless you're an ass like Char. but RECOMMENDED READ.

I would not exactly say that this book is spectacular, but it is quite a brilliant coming-of-age story about self-discovery and acceptance. Elise discovered how to accept herself for who she is, knowing this is more important and what should be attained before others can accept her. The story felt somewhat stagnant in the middle, but the explosive finale is a good moment of reconciliation that more that makes up for it. A good read after all :)

The latest addition to my list of favorite books THIS SONG WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE is beautiful, funny, important. Elise has been unliked and bullied for as long as she can remember. When she finds kindred spirits at a warehouse nightclub, as well as a hidden talent, she begins to believe that she could be more, until even her new found life lets her down. Written with wisdom and sensitivity, this book speaks to the heart of every teen's--every person's--experience of trying to fit in, be liked and admired, and be true to yourself. Elise discovers those thing aren't always able to exist together and that being okay with who you really are has to be enough. It is enough. I love this book and I wish every teen could read it.

I loved This Song Will Save Your Life!! I related to Elise so much throughout the book, especially when it came to her difficulty with finding new friends because I have been very shy all my life and talking to new people can be really difficult. Her story was also so raw and realistic and I really appreciated that fact.
*QUICK SPOILER* And I am so, so glad she did't end up with Char because he was kind of a jerk. I understand that he's a person too, but honestly she is better off without him.
This is a story I would so reread because not only was it entertaining but also really powerful. I loved this book!!
