This is a hilariously silly, yet simple read about a subject (farts, of course) that is inherently funny, and is made even funnier by adding a plot that includes a crazy inventor, helpful kids, and even a dash of "bad guys." I would have liked the illustrations to be a bit more detailed instead of looking like a kid drew them, but I suppose the use of basic drawn lines adds to the overall quirkiness of the read.

I read this book (and the sequel) to my daughter when she was about 6 years old, and we had a lot of good laughs together. You shouldn't be discouraged by the title; the book isn't about "toilet humor", rather it is quite the children's action book. I can't speak for the english translation, but the Norwegian original is certainly a great children's book.

I just love the originality of the story and characters. You probably won't forget about this book and maybe re read it after many years again as me.
It's very enjoyable and funny book.

This is the book the kids and I are listening to on various car rides - and it is just as weird and silly and you might expect. An interesting departure from an author who is known for his dark Norwegian detective novels.

With a title like that you would think this book was downright dumb, but you'd be wrong. Even though every chapter talks about farts and farting at least ten times, the story is clever and engaging enough to keep you interested all the way to the end.

Nilly is a very tiny little red headed boy who moves to a small town in Norway where things get out of hand the second he moves in. Although small in stature Nilly makes up for it with his big heart and his quick wit. He knows all the animals in the book of Animals You Wish Didn't Exist and can play a trumpet like it's no ones business. He makes a connection with Lisa his next door neighbor who recently said goodbye to her best friend who moved away. Together Nilly and Lisa friend Dr. Proctor who has invented the infamous fart powder that makes you fart as loud as a cannon but without the toxic smell of a regular fart. There are evil thieves who are desperate to get their hands on the fart powder in order to make a profit and it's up to the two friends to prevent it.

Surprisingly witty and funny children's book from the most known Norwegian writer of our time. Nesbo's writing don't overly fall for making the book for "the whole family", or overly explain things to the smaller readers, either. Characters are nice and everyone gets the rewards they deserve based on their actions as the story goes from event to event. I could imagine myself reading the next book in the series and enjoying it, too.
