This was really fun! It's a sapphic historical fantasy. Personally I'm not a big fan of historicals, so I probably didn't enjoy it as much as some people would. However I really loved the humor in it, each character had their own fun personality and the romance was super cute. I did not really like the narrator I felt it took away from the story, but other than that this was a fun read, and the cover is absolutely gorgeous.

Witty, funny, and sweet. Beautifully written and a joy to read.

• sapphic bridgerton/
Jane Austen with witches, goddesses, fae, and curse breaking

• I loved this so much it was entertaining and cute. Unfortunately the sex scenes were fade to black for the most part so that was annoying.

• it’s a first person narration from a hobgoblin who watched (or dreamt) the story and is talking directly to the reader. I didn’t totally love that narration style but I still preferred it over multiple pov

• I think this a series but the next book is about her cousin and I don’t think I’ll be reading it. I’m glad the two MCs in this story had their happily ever after and it was all wrapped up in one book.

I loved the narrator in this book -- definitely unique, and so much personality! I think this story could have been cut by 100 pages or so, it was tough getting through the middle of the book. It was a bit monotonous for me. But all that being said, yay for queer ladies! I loved the dynamic between Georgiana and Maelys.

I’ve seen Mortal Follies described as Jane Austen meets A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and in both pacing and tone the book is closer to either of these than to most modern romances.

In terms of taste, perhaps the most important thing to know about Mortal Follies is that it is narrated in the first person by a fairy spirit who collects tales from the human world to which he has been banished. This framing conceit carries on throughout the novel, so if you don’t find it to your taste in the early chapters, this book is likely not for you.
