So much of the book was back story I felt
Also holy shit - I knew getting Belinda’s background like that was to get why she was going to be some level of asshole later and that sucked
Cause at least when Fleur was a away it felt like she really did care for her and so it sucked later
Idk there was a lot there
Alexi was SKEEVY from the beginning and I hated it and so was Flynn - these dudes were full predators
I know the point of the book was Jake and Fleur but their love story kinda felt like a side plot which was fine I guess

Her stuff is very reliable. I didn't love the description of this one, but read it anyway and am glad I did. Not great literature or anything, but fun stories.
This was a pretty good Phillip's Romance. My only major complaint was that Jake was a bit too problematic at times. To be more specific, there was a line in there about how the way Fleur (the protagonist) looked at 19 precluded her from being a kid. This was said as an excuse for some sexual misconduct and was pretty despicable. It was kind of the point, but this statement was never specifically addressed as being atrocious, and it made it hard to care about him moving forward, much less root for the relationship between him and Fleur.
The lead up to the "present" took too long for me, but I liked the rest of it.
Disappointing with a ridiculous plot. Very early work which would have turned me off if I read it first.
I finally made it through this book after quitting multiple times. Definitely not my favorite, probably because it’s very lacking in humor and has some pretty disgusting characters. But as always it’s very, very well written all around.
this was one of two books that I read when I was younger and distinctly remember its how I got my “spark” of romance novels and what other amazing books are out there. Been searching for it for some time now - excited to find it!

I enjoy Susan Elizabeth Phillips, but this book is very “of its time” with all the problematic content (and I mean *all*) that involves. She’s a good writer and the book is interesting, but check the content warnings.
