A really engaging read! The character development was nice, and I think the author did an excellent job of depicting the difficulties a country would face during a health crisis, and how it isn’t as simple as a leader just giving people medicine they need to get better. I was pleasantly surprised by how much political intrigue there was.

I only read this book with the intent of getting it off of my TBR and bookshelf. I regret not reading it sooner. I never wanted to put it down. It was so good even when I thought I saw the twists coming it would throw in another twist to confuse me. I loved Corrick and Tessa’s relationship. Tessa’s relationship with Wes. I immediately need to start the next book.

A well imagined world with a Robin Hood-esque main character sets off the start of a promising epic fantasy.  When reading this book I found difficulty, at first, with the many locations and side characters to keep track of.  Certain characters I couldn't bond with either.  A sequel is desperately needed to hand, as, by the end of the book, all opinions will be shifted entirely.  Recommend to anyone looking for a Medieval fantasy revolving around disease, high politics, minor romantic tensions and a small flavour of found family.

My goodness! This book had me so entranced with every page. I loved every moment of it from the robin hood-esque premise to the friends-to-lovers-to-enemies-to-partners-to-friends-to-lovers dynamic between the main characters. I loved that there’s wasn’t many true good guys or bad guys; just people fighting for what they thought was right thinking they were the good guys. The dilemmas the king and the prince faced when it came to the rebels made me so intrigued. seeing things from multiple perspectives was a great choice! I love political intrigue, and this book scratched all of those itches. I highly recommend and I absolutely can not wait for the second book to come out!!
