I've tried to begin this several times over the years, but DNF. This time around I was determined to finish it!

Rincewind, a wizard failure or one-spell wonder, becomes the guide for tourist Twoflower and The Luggage, and consequently our guide to the Discworld and its bizarre inhabitants, including dicing Gods.

I like the absurdity of this world and the characters are distinctly different; especially liking DEATH but then I'd met and loved him in Mort. Liked this introduction well enough but understand why many others advised me to begin with book 3 instead. I found the later books much easier to read, and much funnier too. There's still plenty of humour to be had here but it didn't tick all the boxes for me.

My first reaction was that [a:Terry Pratchett|1654|Terry Pratchett|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1235562205p2/1654.jpg] was to fantasy what [a:Douglas Adams|4|Douglas Adams|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1189120061p2/4.jpg] is to science fiction. They seem to have very similar writing styles and senses of humor. I lent the book to my friend and he said it reminded him of Futurama, but for fantasy. Both reactions are quite similar, I think.

This was the second book I read from the Discworld. I only read Small Gods before and I thought of going chronologically so I can get the easter eggs and references in other later books. I’ve heard the colour of magic is not the strongest entry in the series and I get it since it’s the first but boy oh boy I didn’t think it would be this boring. I simply did not care and I almost dnf-ed it way to many times, I finished it fueled by perseverence alone.
I’m really unsure if I should continue with Rincewind series and hope it gets better or just skip to guards guards as I initially planned
