Lent by a friend, not something I probably would have ever picked up myself. But I couldn't put it down, read it one go

This was a reread, this time on audio, and not only is the book itself impeccable, but so was Mary Jane Wells’ narration. It was my first by her and I can see why people love her. So. Much. Fun!

The Governess Game was one of the first historical romances I read, and definitely the first one I connected with. Hilarious and sexy and sweet.

The best parts of this book was the kid that kept "killing" her doll by way of various illnesses, and then arranging a funeral each morning. That caused some chuckles.
But I've got to be honest when I reached the first sex scene I lost interest in the book. I just wasn't feeling it, ended up skipping most of it and then just put the book down for days because I wasn't motivated to finish the book. In the end I powered through the last bit last night and this morning, and the book turned out okay in the end.

Ugh. Lame hero who cares only about sex and is a jerk to the heroine (even issues with consent!) The book is centered around him and he annoyed me so much! I actually liked the kids in this book - rare for me in a governess plot - so I give it credit for that. And Tessa’s writing is always interesting. But this is a weak entry from her.

3.5 stars rounded up. Charming and adorable but not particularly memorable. Loved the doll funerals.

You know how I said that I now get why people love Tessa Dare in the first book in this series? Yeah. This book cemented that. I adored this book! I finished it and asked a friend (literally) how I had only read my first Tessa Dare books this year. She shrugged via text, lol. Enough about my new-found love for Tessa Dare. This book. I loved The Duchess Deal so hard, I couldn't imagine that this would stand up... it did. Capably. Our heroine is a budding astronomer who is mistaken as a governess and immediately hired to care for two orphaned hellions. Our hero is the guardian of said hellions with a lot of guilt hidden away who finds himself more and more drawn to the pretty, fearless, governess. Y'all know I love a romcom and I didn't know that could be done with a historical, but this is proof it can be done and done well! I may have already started the next book. Because reasons.

this wasn't particularly memorable or unique but it was really well done and very sweet and perfect for me at the time.
