After reading Eating Animals, I made the switch over from being a flexitarian to being a full on vegetarian. I had avoided reading things that had to do with vegetarianism because I knew that if I read them, I would need to change my lifestyle. I was right.
This book gave me those same vibes. I know I’m not doing enough to combat climate change. I have a lot to think about after this book. I may need to revisit.

This is a clever book. The analogies Foer weaves into the climate change debate are inspired and powerful. However, if you are looking for a toolkit to make your life more environmentally friendly this isn’t it. It doesn’t have any answers or strategies, it’s just a man pondering why we behave the way that we do when such a great threat is looming.

DNF! I just couldn’t sit through anymore, made it just over half way.
I originally grabbed this book because it’s a subject matter I’m really interested in, and the title was really catchy. I absolutely hated my experience with this book, I dreaded picking it up to continue reading. This is not a book of facts, problems and solutions (which is what I was expecting), but rather a book of droning, long winded personal stories and opinions which are not related to the subject. I was getting so frustrated because the first 60 pages did not even mention the topic! Not once! Then it’s a rapid fire chapter of jot point facts, which only leads back to more personal stories. I feel as though the author really put in a lot of himself into this book; however as some one who doesn’t know him as a friend it didn’t impact me (frankly I didn’t see why I should care or how it related to the topic of the book). That may have sounded harsh, but honestly I’m just upset I wasted my time with this book, it really wasn’t for me.
If anyone has any good recommendations for other books covering this topic that actually offer some facts and/or solutions (basically anything constructive/productive) please comment!

Wow. This book. It should be required reading for so many of us. And at the same time i recognize that it was easy to take in because he acknowledges the internal struggle so many of us have.

I found comfort in the author’s ruminations, knowing that I’m not alone in my struggle to constantly do better with all the incredibly overwhelming information on this subject. I enjoyed the repetition and circling back to already visited issues. It’s such a hugely daunting subject that revisiting the facts is necessary.

I think the line that really stood out to me was when the author said, you might not be able to commit to a lifetime of no meat or animal products. but you can choose this next meal, this day, to help save the world.
I can do that.
I can do that.
