Skimmable-- lots of anecdotes and not a lot of actual answers to the question. The answer he gives over and over is "He feels entitled to [abuse you in whatever manner]. His value system says that this is acceptable, valid, approved, necessary, whatever, on some kind of continuum and that that continuum is unique to each man and informed by several versions of culture." Props for discussing, at length, that abuse is not limited to physical harm and punishment. And a nice listing of resources in the back, now heavily outdated.

Not really geared towards those who experienced childhood abuse. It is more for domestic partner abuse situations.

Not a full 5 star because parts are outdated and the language isn’t super conducive to the LGBT community . Also dislike “male” and “female” rather than “man” and “woman” being used so often.

this book was absolutely incredible. i honestly don’t even have the words to describe it. it was educational and eye-opening and comforting and everything in between. hit a little too close to home at times, but i already knew that going into it.
i highly recommend this book to everyone, but especially to women (those who are in relationships as well as those who are currently single/looking to date). lundy bancroft really did the entire world a service by publishing this book, and i will never forget the lessons it has taught me.

I don't love everything about this book, and the author is a terf loser, which was disappointing to learn. However I found this to be a really radical and informative read. I agree with a lot of this and think I am a better person for having read it, so I guess I am not going to let it be the end all of my education in this area, but I am pretty comfortable recommending it as a important and helpful resource.
