a short novel with only 79 main chapters, yet each one is filled with warm and funny exchanges between the YanFu couple, some sweet moments of revenge, and a sprinkle of plot twists.

this one helped heal my heart after Yu Wu by Meatbun, and i’m grateful for it. Fu Shen and Yan Xiaohan’s interactions never failed to bring a smile to my face. they have a healthy relationship where they communicate and were still be powerful and normally function as an individual. aside from the happy sugary moments, like every danmei that i have read, Golden Stage also has its heartbreaking and mind-blowing moments. but any gloomy feelings you might have after finishing the main chapters, the extras will heal you.

i would recommend reading this book if you are down for a quick danmei read that is not too plot heavy but still enjoyable.

At the time I'm marking this as finished, I still have to read the extras. However, the book itself I have finally finished after a whole year.

The book itself is amazing and so is the couple, but the complicated political plot was driving me insane, so. 4.5 stars for that one.

This book jumped the shark a little for me, plot wise, from the chapter 40s onwards, but I didn't care that much because the relationship between the protagonists is so enjoyable, their bicker-flirting and constant trolling of each other is both hilarious and incredibly well-written and romantic. The author has great descriptive skill, and the book (which isn't a comedy, can't emphasise that enough, it gets dark) is often laugh out loud funny too. But the main thing for me was the characters, who are both highly competent, both utterly ruthless, and both very very in love with each other. The novel also presents such a convincing political justification for male/male marriage that I was left wondering if that was a real thing in Chinese history.
