A solid debut with enough twists and turns to be fun and of course the absolute favorite Mazolan the Great and Magnificent. A reading treat.

I have read the second edition only, so I have no idea how different it is from the first one.

Quite an interesting book and storyline. I am most definitely captivated. There are some easily predictable things. And the cliffy at the end! Brilliant. But I have questions as well.

Most definitely recommend this romantasy book!

Wow what a debut from R.M. Derrick! Thank you for choosing me for an ARC copy!
This book captured me from the start and I couldn’t put it down. I loved the writing so much and the characters were some of my favorites.

Our plus sized FMC Derica is just a normal girl who has been through a lot in her life, which is super relatable to me. She is just looking for her place in life along with her found family member Reid. I loved reading about her coming into her own voice.

Reid is a lovable big brother from another mother, his family warmed my heart. Derica and Reid leave their tiny village in search of their purposes and come upon quite the adventure *insert brooding, muscled mercenary*.
Justus is a big, brooding guy with big feelings and a voice of woodsmoke (IFYKYK). I loved reading about his inner fight with his feelings.

Mazolan the demon was the highlight for me with their comedic relief and commentary at the worst (but best for us) moments. The banter they have with everyone is super fun and it gave this book so much more personality.

The world and character building were great but not overwhelming like some books, I didn’t feel like this book was over 500 pages. Who can forget the cliff hanger….I will be impatiently waiting for book 2 to come out in December.

If you love found family, fated mates, one bed and forced proximity then this book is for you!

Some of my favorite quotes:

“His woodsmoke voice curled around her, a sibilant hiss.”

“Between us, I’ve never understood why the witches are so hated. They keep to themselves.” Callathe flicked a pointed look at his groin. “I also know that without them, human men would have nowhere to turn to cure ailments of flaccidity.”

“You’ve never read a book with such vivid words, the world in the text formed inside your mind? Never been so deeply affected by an author’s prose, your breath stalled in your chest and your heart soared or broke because of words on a page?”

I am going to start by saying I need the sequel ASAP. This is a really good book. I love the background story behind the mated pair. It is beautiful and is a fresh and unique take on an overused trope.

The characters are interesting with flushed out personalities. Maz may be a secondary character but he steals the spotlight. I would love a spin off focusing on him in the future.

This books focus is ancient myths, cursed dagger, soul mates and reincarnation. However, it also has monsters (the shredded), fighting, spice, demons, fae, and mercenaries. It also deals with grief, friendship and found family.

This is such a beautiful story and I'm excited to see where the story goes from here.

Thank you to the author for sharing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I am sorry it took so long.

Yesssss….
This book was amazing! A wonderful ride as Derica discovers herself and who, or what she is!

The story follows a girl Derica and her best friend as they travel from their small town to the big city to find their fortunes….. along the way they meet a band of mercenaries and a duo of disciples…..
The mercenaries are a blast! I love each one of them so much…. And Maz is just my favorite creature ever!
The disciples are typical of any religious group… pious, caring etc…..

There is adventure, spice, heroics and a wonderful twists! Definitely worth the read.

The Warrior and the Weaver-blessed are destined to always find each other, fall in love aaaand for the Weaver-blessed to fall by the hands of the Warrior. Through a terrible twist of fate this has happened for generations and the Warrior always remembers and tries to resist. Will the Weaver-blessed and Warrior be able to change their fate or be doomed yet again?

What a fun start to a series! Lots of good angst, spice and development for Derica and I absolutely loved her relationship with Reid! Eager for more!

What an adventure! What characters and what an ending!
I loved the way the story took you on various adventures through time and experiences through multiple POV’s!
I am absolutely enthralled with Mazolan, I would read an entire book on them and their history!
Some spice but I need more, emotional turmoil and I had tears brimming towards the end.
Overall lovely book!
