“No more what-ifs, morsel. You can’t what-if everything to death. Being prepared is all well and good, but there is only so much you can anticipate in life.”
Breaker Of Fate captured me from the start. Is a thrilling romantasy, with LGBTQ+ rep, a curvy FMC (and no internalised fat shaming!), a broody MMC and quite possibly my favourite side character ever, Mazolan.
The world/story building is great, and while the story starts of slow, it is so important to the plot to learn the tale of the weaver and the warrior, as well as all the wonderfully, emotionally built story-lives of our MCs. I am DYING to know more about our chaotic, chaos loving side character, Maz will be a character I carry with me everywhere.
We follow Derica & Reid, as they leave their secluded life for the hustle and bustle of castle-city life. Reid & Dericas friendship is so well written, I love how close they are, how they can read each other like a book and how much they care for each other. We don’t seem to see much of our wonderfully growly MMC Justus until the later half of the story, but that makes sense with the plot line, and I can’t wait to see more of him in books 2+.
I can’t wait to read more, to find out the cost of decisions, and how, hopefully, fate will be broken.

Now this was fun. While BOF may have a slower start for some, Derrick does a great job of layering the foreground for the world and story building. This story follows the weaver and the warrior, linked in their tapestry by a fate thread, but only able to find each other in the next life if the weavers life ends via the warriors blade. That blade finds the warrior in every life. Cursed to remember every past life and live with the guilt of killing his love, yet the weaver never remembers. Does the warrior choose to find her and reignite their love, or does he leave her to a life with less heartache.
Derrick does a great job at weaving together this tale. She brings great detail and life to not only our FMC and MMC but to our side characters. We get to see the strength of Reid, the cunning and humorous side of Mazolan, and the mediator that is Nyle. Derrick loops in twists and turns that keep you guessing who the true villain is and what the end purpose of Derica finding out her true self.
This was a solid start to a series that will keep readers engaged and for a fun ride.

I enjoyed this book very much! I absolutely loved the story behind the Weaver-blessed and the Warrior. It is hopelessly romantic and tragic and it made my heart hurt for Justus.
I liked the side characters just as much as the MCs, Mazolan being my absolute favorite (I have a soft spot for chaotic and meddling characters 😂), but Reid was also great and I enjoyed his relationship with Derica.
This book might have been a bit slow for my taste, but I think it has a nice balance of plot and characters. We still have a lot to learn about Derica, and the affliction creating the Shredded, but it was a nice start to the series, definitely leaves you hungry for more!
You'll enjoy it if you like a broody MMC, stubborn FMC, fated mates, magic, demons, meddling side characters, curses, fights, spice and more!
*Thank you to the author for the eARC. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to the author for providing me with an eARC in exchange for a honest review.
I really adored the main character of this book, Derica is a plus-sized and bi-sexual FMS who is not a hero, or warrior but instead just a young woman fated to fall in love. She is not a FMC who is instantly good at everything she does and beyond charming and strong instead she is just a woman doing what she needs to in order to survive. I also loved all the friendships in the shown throughout the book. Derica and Reid have a friendship that is more of a family bond and are so sweet towards each other. Justus, Nyle and Maz have a bond that is more silent but equally as strong. The found family trope is one of my favorites and it is definitely strong in this book. While I did really enjoy this book it did take me a minute to get into the world building and truly start to understand what was going on. I have been in a bit of a slump this month which is why I didn't ended up reading this one as soon as I met to but I am glad I finally got to reading it because it is a strong story.

R.M Derrick was kind enough to provide me an ARC of Breaker of Fate, and I am so glad that she did.
I will try and make this as spoiler free as possible!
Breaker of Fate Is an adult fantasy that follows the idea of fated mates. The world building and lore of this world is simple, but cleverly done, allowing the author to weave (heh, pun intended) a beautiful back story and introduction to the ongoing plot of the series.
I really enjoyed the characters, although I am hoping that Nyle's characterisation grows more in any subsequent stories. The MFC is warm-hearted and kind, whilst still holding her own, but does not take the traditional Badass MFC pathway like so many other fantasy novels. It was a pleasant change to read a story where the MFC is so fundamental to the story and plays a critical role, whilst still remaining soft and loving, both in personality and their power. It was also such a beautiful change to have a MFC who is clearly described as plus size with no beating around the bush - there is no room for interpretation here, Derica is a big girl, and I love seeing myself represented in fantasy literature.
I am hoping that as the story progresses, we delve more into the back story of the Warrior and the Weaver-Blessed, examining past lives, and learn more about the lore. I also cannot wait to learn more about Maz, who was an absolute delight of a character - as if Peeves the Poltergeist, Jack Sparrow, and Crowley had a baby from the weirdest throuple ever.
Such a great beginning to what should prove to be a beautiful story.

This book… THIS BOOK OMG!! I had such a great time with this book. There was such cool lore and world building in this story but it was only a dip of the toe I am so excited for more. I had my cork board and red string going the whole book. The plot had me engaged the whole time. I loved the cast of characters. Derica was a great FMC. Watching her journey in this book has me so pumped for the next one! Also Maz, I love Maz with my whole heart. A wonderful little weirdo (lovingly) they are. This book has some wonderful laugh out loud moments, moments that hit me right in the feels, moment that had my jaw on the floor, and they all were blended so wonderfully. Also the ending HOLY HOY POCKETS THE ENDING!!! I am so excited to see where this story goes next!

Best read of February, this debut fantasy checks all the boxes.
With the release of this book coming in 2 days, I have to tell you you need to pick up this book. R.M. Derrick did such a fantastic job with this. I was crying several times throughout the book, laughing, screaming, you name it.
Derica is our plus-sized queen. I adore that her size and curves are embraced and not shamed.
Reid is her best friend, and I loved that this giant of a man is a softie for her, and there is a brother-sister bond between them. He's always there to protect and defend her, while also encouraging her.
Justus... he may seem like a brute, but his world revolves around Derica. "Every fiber of my being wants to hold you, touch you, care for you. Until the universe is dust around us, that's all I could ever want." Once you read this book, you'll understand why all my saved quotes center around him.
Maz is the best sidekick side character. I also said that about Hadrial from [b:A Ruin of Roses|58785677|A Ruin of Roses (Deliciously Dark Fairytales, #1)|K.F. Breene|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1629116168l/58785677._SY75_.jpg|92563581]... You know, I think Maz and Hadrial would get along fantastically and be the best of friends. The mischief those two would get up to.... Oh, it'd be the best fanfic crossover ever. Anyways. Maz is a breath of fresh air, and just what this story needs to help bring the characters and plot together. They really are going to be a fan-favorite character.
Fated mates and reincarnation... but only the Warrior is aware. Reading the book description, you know who the Warrior and Weaver-Blessed are as they're introduced. You get to follow along with Derica's journey of self-discovery. After losing her mother, she feels adrift. Jumping at the opportunity to leave her small town with Reid, to start fresh in the city, but you know how fantasy novels go... it doesn't all go according to plan. Joining forces with Justus and his crew, they make the trek to the city. An unfortunate encounter with the Shredded separating them from the others, Derica and Justus seek shelter in an abandoned cabin in the woods. Forced proximity and their attraction to each other they had been trying to deny? Things start heating up, if you catch my drift.
