I've wanted to read Persepolis since I first saw it in my high school library. I'm so glad I finally got to read it. It was a great, fast read. Super informative and engaging.

For me, the power of Persepolis is in allowing a reader to understand massive conflicts not through statistics, troops or other top-down view, but through the perspectives and lives of individuals. It allows us to understand the humans at the heart of conflicts that get lost when you cannot connect with them in other mediums

I can understand why this book was included in the list—it's unflinching and touching and informative. Sometimes I had a hard time following the story, but I enjoyed it overall, especially learning about a time and place and people I'm not particularly familiar with.
