The premise of this book was so intriguing, but it missed the mark for me.
My heart absolutely ached for Annie and her experiences as she became more cognizant of the patriarchy and what was expected of her as a woman. I was really excited to see where her story was going to go, but I felt like it never really developed beyond Annie’s growing awareness of her role in the home and the world. There were a lot of side characters that felt extremely underdeveloped and lazily written off
(more info on Delta please??)
. The ending also felt incredibly rushed and was so, so unbelievably disappointing and boring. I think there was a great idea here, but this was ultimately a flop in terms of execution. It needed to be stronger in the last third of the book especially.

The basic concept might seem tryte but the author has a skill to slowly develop character that is superb. As a reader we are privy to the thinking of Annie, an AI. We read about her confusion and ultimate understanding of human problems and its rather comical how the author uses these incidents to provide a look at just how messed up humans can be. Throughout the book Annie slowly works through steps that may lead to a human-like awareness that sneaks up on one and but is she really like a human? An outstanding book and I've already read the ending twice.

“I can’t be in love with someone who has no choice in the matter, so I’m setting you free”

One thing AAL has taught me is that power and love cannot coexist, and Annie Bot is a perfect representation of that statement.

Doug was a terrible person, and he’s the definition of hurt people hurt people, or robot I should say in this instance. Annie is a robot that he began a relationship with, but things quickly went down hill, because the more consciousness she gained, the more controlling he became and they began to crumble.

This is my first science fiction novel and I enjoyed reading from the perspective of AI. I actually caught my sympathizing a robot as she experienced humanity and “love”.

I enjoyed this book in the beginning, towards the middle  I was wondering where the story was going, but in the end everything made perfect sense. It’s definitely different from anything I’ve ever read.
