Funny, I picked this book up even though I'd pretty much given up on this author, simply because it was an author I recognized in the last dregs of books when our Borders was closing (sob!). I got it super cheap and waited quite a while before actually reading it, but it ended up being my favorite of the 3 I've read by this author. I really liked the questions that were asked about how mass media works and how it effects the lives of innocent people caught up in a big story. I also thought the ending was appropriate without being unbelievable.

A story involving the issue of the media and its invasion of privacy. Lily Blake is a woman accused of having an affair with a newly named Cardinal. The story is completely false yet the media sets out to destroy her life and privacy. She escapes to her small hometown in New Hampshire. There she meets the publisher of the small town newspaper who sets out to prove not only is the story false but it has been totally fabricated. Barbara Delinsky is good at character development so one cannot help but like the characters.

Lake News was an escape to Lake Henry, New Hampshire. I enjoyed the northeastern vibes. I like the character development. I liked how the story kept changing although they may John the savior. The happy ending was too cliché. I wish she did actually had the affair and tricked John. Where there is smoke, there is fire! Over all the parent adult child dynamics was cool. I only wish Gus had more time to explain himself.

I liked it but didn’t like it during the middle. It was a lot of fluff in the middle and I keep falling asleep but wanted to no more about her relationship with the cardinal.

I enjoyed the audiobook of this novel. The narrator was soothing and read with great emotion. The overall storyline of Lilly Blake was ever so prevalent even in 2020. The fact that she was forced to move back to her hometown of Lake Henry after being wrongly accused of an affair in a public forum, is all too familiar with the ridicule and false reporting happening today. What drew me into this novel was how Barba Delinsky connected the character development and storyline. It was rich with backstory, and you truly felt by the end of the book that nothing was left unsatisfied.
I look forward to the sequel.

It's a nice, good story. Very well written. The descriptions made me want to be beside a lake and hear a loon again.
I cared about the characters enough that I was really angry at times.
I am glad that the author avoid the cliché often found in that kind of story. The love interest didn't betray the main character, to redeem himself later, for example, but did the right thing right away.
But sometimes it was just a little bit too much. Lily annoyed me when we learn that she was married, betrayed by another man, and still, she didn't learn? Ah! It's good that she trusted John, but still... A little bit of the damsel in distress...
But overall a nice story.

There's something so enchanting about the setting of the story created by Barbara Delinsky that one longs to actually being there. This is a story of relationships but even the issue of media hounding comes across plainly.
