I had mixed feelings about this. I liked it in the beginning, got really annoyed in the middle and I liked the end. The beginning was all world building and establishment and by the middle of the book i got annoyed bc i felt like it was still just world building and establishment. I also felt like Cinder discovered nothing on her own and that made things less interesting. Any important information was simply given to her by mainly the doctor or
the programmer girl who shows up randomly at the end who I assume is Cress
which was kinda meh in my opinion, but it is YA so it’s understandable i guess. Which is also why I’m excusing the fact that I was able to predict the major plot points early on lmao. I probably would’ve liked it more if I was the target demographic.

Despite my gripes, i did find the overall plot interesting and although i dont wanna commit to reading a series ill probably at least read the wiki to see what happens.

this was a re-read, but since i first read this book when it came out i only half-remembered the plot. it's as good as i remember, and i would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves sci-fi and fairytale retellings. i will say that in a post-covid era it may be a little triggering to read for some readers, however, as it does deal with a worldwide pandemic. this is not a spoiler, you learn this in the first few pages, but it is a theme throughout the series.

This was a beautiful retelling of the story of Cinderella in a magical world that is a beautiful mix of our modern world and a futuristic world foreign to us.

If it wasn't for the fact that I predicted the ending of the book at page 100 (this is a 400 page book, by the way) then I would have EASY given it 4 stars, if not 4.5, but there was no sense of surprise for me.

Nonetheless, I do recommend everyone go read it!!

I've read the Lunar Chronicles a few times now, and they're good books as the worldbuilding is interesting but easy to understand, and the characters are entertaining. Cinder isn't the best out of the four books as it only has Cinder's storyline and only a few main characters are introduced, but it's still a good setup for the rest of the series.
