It left me wanting more, maybe a different ending, but was a wonderful story with characters you can empathize with.

I have fallen in love with Maeve Binchy’s writing since reading Evening Class almost 2 years ago. Her prose is simple, yet lyrical, with complex characters that you understand and relate to.
The book follows two childhood girlfriends from a small village where everyone knows everyone as they enroll in college in Dublin during the end of the 50s and meet new friends. It’s a tale of love, desire, mistakes, redemption, and most of all, friendship. You all know by now that I’m not a romance girlie, but I will read anything Maeve. This is how you do a proper romance in my opinion.
There are always a lot of people and names in her book and this one is no exception, which means that even by the end of it I still wasn’t sure who’s who with a couple of minor characters. Some things were a bit too stretched out, and occasionally I felt like smacking a character or two, but it’s still a very enjoyable cozy summer read.
I already own 5 of her novels and I plan on getting all of them from second hand stores to have a warm hug of a book at hand for the rest of my life. 4.5 stars
