I was shocked a man wrote this then looked him up and he was born in 1888. Makes more sense lol

A friend recommended this book a long time ago and I finally got around to reading it. It was a fun book full of short stories about a lot of successful and famous individuals- Lincoln, Charles Schwab, Taft, etc. The way the stories are written made them interesting and quirky to read, as well as short enough to keep my attention. The psychology about how to actually gain friends/influence people weren't new to me, but the way he presented them was enjoyable.

A fair amount of this was very interesting! I really enjoyed the focus on empathy and kindness, as well as the structure of the book. You can see that this is meant as a workbook as well as entertainment. The writing was decent, a bit repetitive and obviously old-fashioned/outdated in many respects. The target audience is very different from who I am, and the heavy business focus definitely doesn't work for everyone. It's a solid read but not the uncritical holy grail of self-improvement like some people portray.

Well I thought this book will make me a better person but I found myself using the techniques for defeating and destroying some annoying people
