Cime tempestose by Emily Brontë

I've wondered about this classic for a while and wanted to understand references to it and Heathcliff, but despite the great narrators of the Naxos audiobooks edition, I am not drawn into the story. I love gothic vibes, but this book is not enjoyable for me. I did not love Emily Bronte's sister, Charlotte Bronte's book, Jane Eyre, either, but I was enticed enough and followed events and characters enough to keep reading the entire book. Nothing feels like it's actually happening in Wuthering Heights, and the way the story is told does not appeal to me with the housekeeper relaying past events. Also, from other reviews I get the sense that the relationship between Heathcliff and Catherine (which one? Why does ONE book have TWO Catherines?) is a traumatic love story. That reminds me too much of the CoHo books so many readers clamor for today, and traumatic love stories are not for me. I listened to 13% of the book, which was an hour and 45 minutes.

Me before re-reading this book: Omg, I’m so excited! I hope I love this the second time around!

Me while reading this book: I’m being hit repeatedly in the head! Wtf is actually happening! Fuck Heathcliff! Get a job! Leave them alone! Stay away from her!

Me after finishing this book: It doesn’t feel like I finished anything… where’s the rest!? But see, Heathcliff, how much better life is without YOU!!!!

Would rather not live through that again quite frankly! 10/10
