I have mixed feelings about this one. To take a historical event like the massacre of Ouradour and make it part of your story is ok but to change the historical facts to fit your narrative goes to far imo.
Also, one of the main plot points falls completely flat (spoilers ahead). When a proven war hero finds the person responsible for the massacre of Ouradour, nobody in France in 1947 would have stopped her of shooting him. They would have cheered her on. 1947 was fresh of the war and revenge on collaborators was not rare.
But a nice read even so.

I've been in such a historical fiction mood. This one hit the spot. So interesting learning about female spies during WW1 and what they faced during such hard times. Also the aspect of how women dealt with unwanted pregnancies.
sexual assault, suicide, pregnancy, abortion (described on page), blood, slight gore, Nazism, hospitalization, v*miting, death, loss of loved ones, torture, stalking, and war

When I usually read a book I do not like to struggle with the language. That being said some French and German words were needed to be used in this story since it is set in the time of World War I and right after World War II. From personal preference if I struggle too much with the language I automatically drop my rating a half a star or more. There was a lot of language for me to struggle with but the story of Eve and Charlie made up for it. This was a riveting tale that kept me on the edge of my seat for the 500 pages that I read. I liked how it went back and forth from when Charlie met Eve to help find her cousin to going back to when Eve was a spy in the 1910s. I loved how Kate Quinn mixed in real life historical figures with fictional characters. I highly recommend anyone read this if they have not yet.

I highly recommend the audio version of this book! I especially loved Eve’s story and the Alice network. Eve is a really interesting character and I found her story very compelling

I’m a sucker for badass women in literature and this novel did not fail to disappoint.

The story takes place during two separate time periods (WWI & post-WW2) from two different character perspectives that eventually come together. I could not put it down.

This intertwined stories of a woman spy during WWI and a young woman's search for her missing cousin after WWII is sometimes cliche but always riveting.
