This book pulled my heart out of my chest and ripped to pieces before stamping on it. Its an intense look at how peoples flaws can make them or break them. It also looks at the effects the people we surround ourselves with have on us.

it was trope-y which can be good if that’s what you like. some of the writing was beautiful, but some made me cringe. i mostly walked away with positive feelings. you knew the stakes early in. one of the top 3 most powerful lines for me -
The tears spilled over and her shoulders crumpled at the weight of her life that fit entirely in one small duffel.

God, you’ll definitely cry. I started reading it before I realized it was a sad book and then I was hooked and now I’m here. The sobbing has been a lot. This is why I don’t read sad books! They’re beautiful but god… the heart pain.

I'm so...sad right now. I know there is another part to this duology, but I don't want to forget my impressions as I read that one. I'm not usually a fan of insta-love but I'd put this in a completely different category if I really needed to. Kasey is so starved for meaningful connection in her life, and Jonah is trying to protect the ones he loves from what he is going through. While she never expected to find a connection with simple kindness from a stranger, he never expected to desire a connection with anyone this deep considering how hard he works to keep himself from forging new relationships. The love they find in one another is lovely, and I really hope that the second book in the duology will be the balm I need to soothe my tattered little soul. Plus, I think Hello Fresh would appreciate if I'd stop crying through books while I cook their meals. It looks bad on paper that it seems like their meals make me cry.
