For the first two-thirds of the book, I felt like everything was being told so slowly it was hard for anything to be very tense or exciting.
The last 20% or so of the book did speed up, and that was the best part.

I have finished it and I would say that reading this story felt like watching a Korean noir thriller with lots of violence and men being in the middle of all that violence and action. And inspite of all that you find our main protagonist, who lives his life as an assassin and gets embroiled in this plot that he wasn't supposed to be in. Did the end justify the story? Perhaps, since it is because of the protagonist. I am unable to say a lot more about the themes of the book, but can say that capitalism shows its ugly side in this book. Setting of a library as our protagonist's childhood setting is indeed a new thing (haven't seen an assassin reading) but I cannot see of his mentor being against reading since he has also been reading. But I guess he considers that as a bane as he has to see through all of that plotting thing since he know how to read. Perhaps.

For a book titled the Plotters, I found the plot of this one ironically to be one of the weakest aspects of the novel that left me disappointed. I love the character dialogue and the protagonist Reseng is quite the relatable anti-hero who was cast into and doesn't know what life is like outside the dark world of assassins. This is very much a book where the journey is deemed more important than the destination as The Plotters sets up a fascinating scene and takes a good stab at the world of political corruption, underhanded deals, and what money can buy (pun intended). Reseng gets tangled up with a plot to overthrow the status quo of the hitman industry but the book never resolves the plotlines it sets up. He goes through a period of self-reflection and discovery as things go from bad to worse and ends with a moment of grandeur for Reseng similar to the climax of a movie where an epilogue would normally kick in showing the aftermath of the events. Except there isn't one and you're left to assume or wonder whether anything Reseng did (or what you read) even mattered. With such a slow moving plot and unsatisfying ending), this was not for me.

Sukses mancing rasa penasaran lalu dapat kesempatan baca gratis (thanks to Rakata), tuntaslah semua rasa penasarannya.

Walaupun, kalau diangkat jadi film (kalau series malah ragu ending-nya nggak diubah) ending begini kayak biasa banget. After effect-nya memang ... hampa.

Pokoknya, thanks to Rakata!

I found this very intense. Sometimes it was like watching a movie. My only issues were that it was occasionally slow and unfortunately extremely violent. If you like action and thrillers I highly recommend this.

This was a fun read, but it never really felt like it was going anywhere. Maybe some of the impact got lost in translation.
