I enjoyed this book right up to the moment the author vividly described a sexual assault. It was jarring and, having been on a bit of a historical fiction kick at the time, I read it around the same time I read two similar length books involving sexual violence perpetrated during WW2 that were able to be just as compelling in conveying the experience while being much more sensitive in the actual description.

Surprised me with how enjoyable it was. I was expecting something overly saccharine and lighthearted but it actually had quite a compelling story, a pleasant amount of romance, some more dark and emotional themes and scenes and overall was really enjoyable.

This was a relaxing, enjoyable read. I participated in a “blind date with a book” and the librarian picked this out for me, knowing I love historical fiction and had recently enjoyed By Her Design.
This one wasn’t quite as rich a story, but I still enjoyed It nonetheless.
Some of the love stories seemed forced and unnecessary and therape scene took me quite by surprise.

I can only say good things about this book. I came to love Anne, Miriam, and Heather. It was so hard to tell them goodbye when the book was done.
Ms Robson’s story about “princess Elizabeth’s” wedding gown was palpable. I appreciated every aspect. Following Anne and Miriam in the moment, and also following Heather as she learned about her grandmother’s past.
It was such a pleasant deviation from the typical historical fiction. If you enjoy historical fiction with strong women, then this is a must read. Even if you don’t normally like books like that, you should read it anyway.
