I loved both of these stories but they were both difficult. I would read parts then walk away for a little bit to digest the story. I will definitely look for another book by this author.

I enjoyed this book. Susan Meissner was a new author for me. I enjoyed
the dual time period-shortly after the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire and after
9-11 in New York City. There was a lot of time spent on Ellis Island which is
also of interest to me. I would definitely read another book by this author.

A beautiful story that pulls at the heartstrings while still wrapping you in a start that leaps from two tragic circumstances bound together by loss, love, and the beauty of history. I will be looking for more by Ms. Meissner, I was very impressed.

“Love comes from Heaven... it is given to us not to hold on to or hide from, but to give away.” This amazing historical fiction read took me back to the historical 1911 New York fire and the twin towers attack on 9.11 and two parallel stories between Clara & Taryn. I adored this book: it made me smile, laugh, cry, and remember two historical events that tragically took so many lives. “Despair is love’s fiercest enemy.” “Love is the only constant in a fragile world.”

“Everything beautiful has a story it wants to tell. But not every story is beautiful.”

“Kindness is always motivated by something nobler than just a desire to be kind.”

“Love was both the softest edge and the sharpest edge of what made life real.”

Two compelling stories of loss... but the story set in the past felt overblown, a little overly dramatized. Not that a person coudldn't have those experiences, or those feelings... just that it seemed a little far fetched, and therefore harder to get caught up in the story.
The connection between the two stories also seemed tenuous.
But it was enough to keep me reading, and rooting for the two protagonists to find happiness, whatever that means for them.
