Aside from the slow burn romance, both the first and second books in the Love for the Seasons series share another thing in common: one of the main characters has a fantastic and protective best friend. Noah had Terry in book one and Marcus has Colin, with the added bonus of Jerry, Colin's long-term partner. These best friends bring a lot of additional flavor to the stories, and I really loved how they never hesitated to tell it like it was and put Aiden in As the Leaves Fall and Adam in As the Ice Melts in their place. In this sequel in particular, two additional memorable supporting characters were Marcus's grandmother and Adam's mother--both women wanting nothing more than to see the boys they've reared into good men live happy and healthy lives. I've become addicted to this series and am definitely looking forward to seeing what else is in store for readers. As the Ice Melts gets five stars. ♥

I had honor of proofing this story so it was great to get my hands on an early copy. I liked this story, but mostly because it tackled a main character with a disability that impacted his life in so many ways. It was particularly interesting as I'd never heard of this particular problem before. Nice characters, strong female characters, sweet story.

When I first started this story, I wasn’t overwhelmed. I didn’t like either of the characters much at all which I know isn’t fair to Adam since he was just reacting to Marcus’ ill behavior. As Marcus got back to his old self and further away from the jerk he became while in London, you see what a sweet, caring, giving man he is. The disorder he suffers from is one I’ve never heard of and I am fascinated by it. He owns a little piece of my heart because of it as I have a dyslexic son and know how hard it is when basic skills are compromised. He has surrounded himself with some pretty amazing people – I especially love Collin and Jerry, but Gran is special too. When Adam realizes he just got a really bad first impression of Marcus, he shows his true colors and he’s pretty amazing too. I hate the position he was put in but he has handled it well for someone so young. As Colin predicted, they are pretty great together.

There is a scene near the end that had me in tears – my heart totally broke for Marcus. I literally could feel his pain.

This is a pretty quick read and is written and developed just as well as book 1. You could probably read this as a standalone as the author does a good job of telling us what happened with Marcus in that story.

Hmmmm. Marcus was an absolute prat in book 1 [bc:As the Leaves Fall|29371449|As the Leaves Fall (Love for the Seasons, #1)|R.J. Jones|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1456807721s/29371449.jpg|49621305]. Hated him with the force of a thousand suns. Really wondered if he could redeem himself. I have to say that up until about 40%, I still thought he was a jerk. I couldn't figure out why he was such a dick to Adam at the chip shop. He gradually improved as the book went on... but, and I recognize that I am solidly in the minority here, I didn't feel the connection between Adam and Marcus. The bits flirting at the club then the night Marcus got drunk and.. it sort of fell flat to me. I think I needed more togetherness or something. More of a connection. Marcus' disabilities were fascinating and the way they were handled was done well. I just.... want.... more, I guess. I did LOVE Marcus' friends. Great guys. And Mum and Gran, lovely secondary characters. Hope there is a book 3 because I really dig this author's writing style.
