This is a short story from the "Forbidden List" series. You can read it both before and after you read the main series, as it does not include any spoilers. So you can use it as a free trial.
It is less dark than some parts of the main series though - so don't think that is always as light hearted as this.

For the story itself - it features two important side characters from Forbidden List, and I loved getting to spend a bit more time with them! I just adore their banter and how blasé they are about danger. This time, as the title already says, they encounter some outlaws to get rid off.
I was grinning almost right from the start, and had a great time throughout the whole story!

Winningly combines the Chinese-inspired setting of his Forbidden List series ([b:The Stone Road|21996457|The Stone Road (The Forbidden List, #1)|G.R. Overall, a great example of what to expect from Mr Matthews.

A fun short story.

There is not much world building, though we do get a glimpse in the world this series in set in. But the main focus is the fight of the 2 main characters, Liu and Gang, against a band of outlaws.

The fighting scenes were pretty good, and most importantly of reasonable length, unlike some Kung-fu movies who stretch them as much as possible, something I find rather boring. And the interactions between Liu and Gang were very entertaining.

I'll be reading the rest of the series, if only to meet those 2 again.
