This book read much more like a history text book than I expected it too. It was a nice read after I got into the grove. I loved getting more info on all of these important women.

This is first and foremost a history book and as such can be a bit dry and difficult to follow at times, especially in the beginning. It's not a novelization and doesn't have the sort of flow like there is in the movie. All of that being said, this is still a fascinating look at race relations of the 1950s and 60s, the experience of women in the workplace after the second world war, aeronautical science, and the intersection of those things at Langley Air Force Base.

If any of the above topics interest you, I recommend it. These untold stories deserve to be told.

Five stars for the story and these women. I found the narrative a bit draggy at times, but overall a well worth it read.

I really tried to like this book. I loved the movie and hoped that the book would be even better. I love the premise of celebrating these brave women and their incredible accomplishments, but I found the writing to be less than engaging. I finally gave up about halfway through because I didn’t see it getting any better. Would love to hear from others-maybe I missed something?

This was great! I found it very relatable and (dare I say) inspiring, being a woman in computing, and this personal connection made even the struggles I can't relate to (being a WoC in Jim Crow America) that much more relatable.

A bit disappointingly dry. I loved the movie, and was hoping for more of a narrative story. Bahni Turpin as the narrator helps a lot, as does seeing the movie first! Great info; just hard to think that kids will be that hooked from the format.

I accidentally bought (and read) the young reader edition of this book. Not to knock it, but I was disappointed with the level of writing (not surprising and was totally my mistake). At some point I'll read the standard version. It was an interesting story and the author did a good job mixing personality & science.
