Cool little novel
I didn’t quite love this book, but I sure did have fun reading it. This is a cool little novel. I recommend reading it.

“But what right do I have to judge anyone else? I want life, don’t I? Life on earth, even after my death. The one thing that no one’s really supposed to have. Maybe that’s real greed, worse than wanting money or fame.”
Anyone can enjoy this book. But if you’re into magical realism and/or Medicine, you’ll probably enjoy it even more. You know you are reading the work of a real life physician when you get some cool, detailed descriptions of surgeries. Vikram Paralkar is my new inspiration when writing fiction.

This was unexpectedly beautiful and thought provoking and I was very invested throughout the entire novel. I totally recommend this to anyone, so long as they can take reading details about surgery. (That doesn’t bother me at all). I loved how it all came together at the end, at it leaves it to you to decide the meaning of it.

4.5 stars, rounded up.
This book was fast, but anything but simple. Well-written and edited, thought-provoking, and an interesting discourse on life, death, and the afterlife. A treat to read.

A strange meandering book set in a small clinic in a village somewhere in Maharashtra. The nameless characters are simply fleshed out but distinct, particularly the surgeon frustrated and raging at the bureaucracy that limits him. Half platitude, half fairytale, this book had the feel of a story told by children with torches under the blankets at night, making it up on the spot, surprising themselves with the twists until they fall asleep.

Fabulism written by a scientist. This was a little creepy, but incredibly moving.
