This book is really for children of adults that have become caregivers to everyone in their family. I can really relate to the egg, especially with him going back home. Many other reviewers say that he shouldn’t have gone back, but it’s not that simple for dysfunctional family structures that aren’t outright abusive. In fact, he’s learning how to break the cycle of enmeshment by taking care of himself. All in all, I recommend this book for children and parents (most especially) to read.

It's so cute! Also, great message about self-care.

I love the messages that are portrayed in this series and the illustrations are amazing as well. Even as an adult, I love the points that are being made and realize how important it is that kids are hearing these messages.

I have thoughts, but I mostly really, really connected to and enjoyed this! Going to re-read it and collect those thoughts before I say anything about this story.

Ok, thoughts have been collected, haha.

I think this is a really important book for parents to read to their kids. I know first hand how hard the need to be perfect at all times can affect some people, and a lot of times it’s not even your fault or a conscious choice that you’re making - you just feel like you have to be perfect or else somebody is going to be upset, or you’ll disappoint someone, or someone will think you’re “too much” and abandon you.

This seemingly simple picture book talks about a complex mental health issue in a very easy to understand way with cute, sleek illustrations that I think kids will love. Will they fully grasp the moral of the story? Sure, if the person reading it to them opens up the conversation that many parents couldn’t (or wouldn’t) have had in the past about what it means to love yourself, how to take care of yourself, and how to give yourself grace and kindness.

Really, really loved this one and will probably buy myself a copy!

I will need to read it again. There were things I liked about this, but I also have reservations.

This one had BIG lessons. I loved the healing journey especially after all the pressure they were putting on themselves and their friends. So happy they got healed up! No one is perfect!

But the egg goes back to its abusive family and keeps on taking the abuse because ‘nobody is perfect’ at the end. NOPE.
