On the other hand, I loved the prose (I read a 1958 French translation).

Dorian Gray wishes to sell his soul in an attempt to maintain perpetual youth. The catch: His painting bears the marks of time and the scars of an immoral life. He keeps the portrait hidden away as he continues living a life solely for his own pleasure.
I find myself enjoying summaries and the general idea of this book more than the book itself. I also enjoyed a discussion of it that I found on YouTube. As for the actual reading experience? I was bored. There was so much that I could skim and stop whenever the story was being pushed forward.

im sorry but the ,,punishment " part was a bit too similar for me. and that's not really a problem, because the books make sense this way, but still it wasn't as enjoyable. however, i think if I've read them like a year apart than it would've been perfectly fine.
the philosophy was harder to follow than in crime and punishment which was a suprise tbh
and it was quite predictable, but again I dont think that's an issue with this book.
amd also there were really boring parts, but if you think about them, you realise why they were there.
and please don't expect a queer love story, or anything really!
Graphic: Murder

Graphic: Misogyny, Alcohol, Cultural appropriation, Murder, Mental illness, Death, and Toxic friendship
Moderate: Sexual harassment, Addiction, Classism, Drug use, and Infidelity
Minor: Sexual content, Classism, Racism, Suicidal thoughts, Death of parent, Infidelity, and Suicide
The classism is less of a thing that happens and more of a general presence throughout the book.
