I enjoyed this one more than the last - very fast paced. I find find hard to keep track of all the names and political moves happening but this was a fun read for the most part! I'm looking forward to the next.

After the first two books of short stories (which were amazing!!!!) the witcher series started to go downhill for me. The writing became so slow, and long paragraphs are often about unknown characters, with the goal of showing us more of the world, but still, it was sometimes incredibly boring. Then when we finally read about the main characters, it is cut short and we go back to some unknown dudes talking about politics. Also the series started to get more and more complicated, which shouldn't be a problem, but I often got lost on all the names of the different kingdoms, cities, kings and sorcerers. Maybe because English is not my first language, so it must be also because of me but still I found it so overly complicated to understand (and to be honest after a while I didn't even care that much).
I'm so sorry to give this book only 2 stars, I want to give more, but I honestly didn't enjoy it, and took a long time to read it, because sometimes I had to force myself to continue... I still won't abandon the witcher series, but I hope the next book will be more like the short stories I enjoyed so much!

This book pulls you into the world of Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer even further than the preceding novel. Politics, romance, power, magic, and deceit all run wild in this second novel about the mysterious Geralt of Rivia. This novel delves into the involvement of the political war that is Nilfgaard against the rest of the continent. The coup of Thanned leaves the sorcerers wounded and removed of their roles as advisors to kings. The Nilfgaard army continues to rout the northern countries. Geralt recovers in Brokilon with the help of the dryads and learns of the current events when Dandelion comes visiting. Ciri is left to discover her own strengths as she wanders the desert, the frying pan. The turmoils of war bring political unrest to the world of Geralt and Ciri, adding greatly to the depth of characters and the world building of the series.
