I love the premise; I'm always up for a good rewrite of a classic story, especially when it's from the "villain's" POV. There was a lot of good action and detail.

SpoilerI would have liked to see Jaimie's love for Peter to make his growing up and discovering the truth about Peter feel more like a betrayal. As it is, though Jaimie keeps saying he loves Peter, I never feel it...he already seems to hate Peter and the island and the way they live from the beginning, so there's not as much character building as there should be.

Easy 5 star. Loved her writing style and the flow of the story and the characters and their arcs. Everything, there’s nothing I didn’t enjoy about this book.

I actually preferred this to her Alice in the Wonderland books. I imagine this would be enjoyed by those who like Lord of the Flies.

TW: murder of children, emotional abuse throughout. Interesting idea, sad story though. Not one of the better books by this author IMO.

An origin story with an interesting twist. As a fan of Peter Pan, I enjoyed this adaptation, especially since it was in Hook's POV.

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read a digital copy of this book in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.

Evil Peter Pan? Yes, please!!

description

The story is told from Hook's point of view, before he became an adult. (I've always thought there was more to him than meets the eye. Life isn't always black and white.) He is "bff's" with Peter, who is a monster. He is absolutely horrid in this book. As a kid I was kind of afraid of him and all my fears and thoughts about him are manifested in this novel.

I really, really enjoyed this novel. Immensely!

After finishing this emotionally draining, but excellent story, I feel like all I have left is my bones. Lost Boy tells the tale of Jaime, the first lost boy in Peters group. He thinks that its all fun and games until he realizes that Peter is hiding something from him.

Henry has painted a totally different side to Peter, one that is sadistic and dark. This is not your normal childhood feel good story. Its more of a black thriller that will lead you down a dark path. I loved it and would recommend it to anyone who likes a twist.

Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

If you're a real fan of the original telling of Peter Pan, you might find the problems with this dark retelling. But if you were never really a fan (like me) and enjoyed The Lord of the Flies this might be right up your alley.

Maybe I wasn't in the right headspace to read this but it didn't resonate with me as much as I'd hoped. Maybe because it was so so so violent and blood soaked. Or maybe because I felt like Peter was never a sympathetic character even in the beginning. There was nothing bad about it but it left me wanting way less blood and more to care about.
