i really liked the concept of this, but i absolutely hated how the author was jumping through timelines every other paragraph, and already there were too many characters for me to keep track of. also not a fan of the super long chapters.

this book moved so slowly and i did not really enjoy the plot. the characters were also a bit flat and unlikeable.

This is the first book I have read by Abigail Dean and I went in quite blind, so wasn’t sure what to expect how it did not disappoint. Its a psychological thriller and quite heart breaking throughout. I truly felt the pain of the characters involved and found myself emerged in a world of terror for the children who had experienced such outrageous childhood trauma. Themes of god and religion, morality and justice were thoroughly interesting and despite this books very sad plot, it felt almost inspiring to begin to imagine what these characters have been through, and how well adapted Girl A had become to be, despite quite an unexpected twist at the end, the main character still shone with inspiration. A difficult but very immersive read.

This book was intense. I mean you know going into it that it’s about abuse and trauma. I’m glad to know they moved in and lived successful lives but in some ways they are still broken. It was an okay book and story but I felt wanting more.

Gripping, compelling, heartbreaking. I loved this book and how it’s written. So easy to read, and the story pulls you in from the beginning. I enjoyed the back and fourth between present day to past, and how each entwined making the pace of the storytelling enjoyable. I didn’t get bored half way through and really cared for the characters and their story. The ending packed a punch in the gut and it took me a while to recover; I had to stop reading for a few moments to take it in.

Girl A
Abigail Dean
⭐️⭐️⭐️
I can’t say I didn’t enjoy this book, but I also can’t say that I enjoyed it. Honestly, it was just... how do I describe it? “Meh”?
The story was interesting, but nothing really pulled me into it. It felt vague, characters introduced with no real backstory showing any significance. The timeline jumping was confusing. I didn’t know what time period I was reading until I read the first paragraph. It was difficult to keep track when there’s no forewarning.
I appreciated the plot, I really did. However I feel it didn’t delve in far enough. It was like I was reading the summary.
It was alright, but not enjoyable enough I would recommend to somebody for their next read.
