This one was tough to get through. The heroine was such a spineless doormat, in the end I was hoping the villain would kill her, just to put her out of her own misery. Hell, I wish he had killed her on page 10 and ended the book, just to put me out of my misery.

Re-read June 2017
Re-reading this was painful. I liked Alec, but Regan was just ... she's utterly spineless. The world - led by her oldest brother Aiden - treats her as if she is incapable, incompetent, and utterly worthless. And she never does anything to change that. It's awful. She puts up a teeny bit of token resistance late in the book, but no one takes her seriously, and she just soldiers onward. It has a ripple effect of making her despise her brothers (seriously ... I plan to skip Aiden's book later in the series, because fuck him), but the worst damage is to her. She is pathetic, flailing around and taking everyone's abuse, content to be treated as if she's inept.

It's sad, because it is an interesting plot with a potentially excellent hero, but ... her character is so terrible that it just crushes the story.

So much ugh.

I just didn't find any of the characters likable, and in SO MUCH of the book NOTHING HAPPENED. I also had some more nitpicky issues, e.g. the issue of cell phones. So many people made a big deal of not having cell phones, and the MC apparently lost track of hers for a week and didn't notice. This was published in 2004- Pew indicates that about 2/3 of people in the US had cell phones at this time, and half used them regularly. To believe that someone who felt the cell was important enough to take with her prior to losing it, who also likely used it for business, would not even note it was missing for over week is absurd. The constant mention of the MC apparently overwhelming beauty also grew old, as did the reference to the cop-love interest as "sloppy."
Spoiler I was also SUPER bothered by the lack of resolution of the whole Dr. Shields issue that started this nonsense. It ended up having NOTHING to do with the plot; even the motivation of the killer turned out to not be the titular Murder List, so what gives? Why even set this whole thing up like this?

Rich girl murder target meets undercover cop. Big families. Best friends. Forced proximity. Crybaby. A scarf of repulsion.

Car accidents. Creepy stepfathers. Infidelity.

This is more a romance story than a thriller. It started as a thriller with only a few chapters about the murder list and then it turned out to be totally about the love relationship between victim and detective. A thriller for me has to be exciting and scary at the same time, where you read one page after the other wondering whats happening next.
I am not saying that I didnt enjoy this. I did. But I was simply expecting something else.

"Regan Madison agrees to help a reporter friend get the goods on a crooked psychologist, who instructs participants at his seminars to draw up a list of people who have deceived them. Too bad people on Regan's list start dying." (From Amazon)

Another great romantic suspense - very creepy at points.
